Bertha Lee with Charley Patton – “Yellow Bee”

by Eric Din

bertha-lee-blues-music-legend-yellow-beeBertha Lee was the last wife of Charley Patton, and they collaborated on a number of great recordings. Patton, often referred to as “The Father of the Delta Blues,” directly influenced legends like John Lee Hooker, Howlin’ Wolf and Robert Johnson. Bertha Lee sings an other-worldly solo lead on this classic song, “Yellow Bee,” over Patton’s sublime guitar accompaniment. This was recorded shortly before Charley Patton’s death in 1934. Lee died in 1975 in Chicago, Illinois. The records they made together live on and inspire new generations of musicians and music fans to this day.
